Winona Daily News - 6.0: "Philanthropy begins at home
By Jim Hanzel | Winona
Back in 1990, the first cohort of graduate students in Saint Mary’s College’s philanthropy and development Masters program received a group assignment: come up with a definition of “philanthropy.” They produced T-shirts with this imprint: “Philanthropy is the voluntary giving and receiving of time and resources, frequently within an organizational context, directed toward charitable purposes and/or betterment of quality of life.”
On Nov. 16, Dave and Muriel Arnold were recognized by the regional chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals at the area’s “Outstanding Philanthropists of 2005” for their many years of voluntary generosity to area charitable organizations. They were the seventh Winona recipients of that recognition in the program’s 20-year history."
