Have you ever had that feeling of “Oh no… we should have taken advantage of that opportunity for our nonprofit?” Well, this post is to serve as a friendly reminder that National Philanthropy Day is exactly six months away*. If you haven’t planned anything yet, put aside a few hours this week to do so. It’s a great opportunity to thank and solicit donors and volunteers. That way when November 15 rolls around, you won’t have that lousy feeling of regret and missed opportunities.

Hosted by the local chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the annual “National Philanthropy Day Luncheon” at the Hyatt Regency gives special recognition to outstanding volunteers, community activists and philanthropists whose works benefit New Orleans communities and beyond. Reflecting the 2012 theme “Change the world ... With a Giving Heart,” the ceremony was festive and above all dedicated to positive change within the community.

When his YMCA basketball coach, Clint Barbour, needed help collecting basketball shoes for Hoops for Hope—which provides athletic shoes for children in Africa—Brody pitched in, helping to collect nearly 700 pairs of shoes.

Distinguished Honorees, the Crottys Honored by Mount Mercy Academy at National Philanthropy Day Luncheon: The Western New York Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP WNY) honored local philanthropists at its annual "National Philanthropy Day" luncheon. The event took place on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Salvatore's Italian Gardens. Mount Mercy Academy was privileged to recognize Anita (Durkin '63) and Patrick X. Crotty as their 2012 Distinguished Honorees. Anita and Pat believe in the words of Catherine McAuley, Foundress of the Sisters of Mercy, who wrote in 1830's Ireland: "No work of charity can be more productive of good to society than the careful instruction of women."

Rockford kindergartner raises thousands for Haitian village - Rockford, IL - Rockford Register Star: It was that genuine determination that earned him the Future Philanthropist of the Year honor Nov. 13 at the 28th annual National Philanthropy Day Awards event in Rockford. He was one of six individuals or organizations honored by the Rockford chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Nelson made the announcement at the philanthropy day celebration at Minnesota's Association of Fundraising Professionals Friday. Many participants were recuperating from the daylong fundraising blitz.
