The Reporter - Letters-Many chances to 'act locally' on Philanthropy Day

The Reporter - Letters: "Many chances to 'act locally' on Philanthropy Day
Reporter Editor:

Many of us often think about giving nationally or even internationally especially in times of disasters and crises. It's a natural human response to want to help, resulting in an outpouring of concern, compassion and cash.

Yet many of us remember the popular expression, 'Think globally, act locally.' It urges us to look closer to home for solutions to broad problems and to give within our community. At the Solano Community Foundation, our community foundation, we pay particular attention to that idea and do act locally every day.

In keeping with this mission and furthering the idea of very local giving, the Solano Community Foundation has just established The Seven Cities Fund, a cluster of seven different funds, one for each of the seven cities of Solano County. They are called, clever folks that we are: Fund for Benicia, Fund for Dixon, Fund for Fairfield, Fund for Rio Vista, Fund for Vacaville, and Fund for Vallejo."
