The Post and Courier | Charleston.net | News | Charleston, SC: "It is with pleasure that I add my voice to others in congratulating Nella Barkley and Carolina First for receiving the '2005 Outstanding Individual Philanthropist' and '2005 Outstanding Business' awards from the Charleston Chapter of the Association for Fundraising Professionals (AFP) on National Philanthropy Day.

I also applaud local 10th grader Vasanth Kuppuswamy, from the Charleston County School of the Arts, for winning the William R. Simms Award - 'Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy' - for raising money to help students in the Indian village of Maganoorpatti, where he has tutored for the past four summers."
