Contributions to local charities in metropolitan Milwaukee are down to their lowest level since 1999. The ninth Annual Report Card on Charitable Giving was unveiled today by the Greater Milwaukee Foundation. According to the research by the Public Policy Forum, charitable giving to 64 bellwether nonprofit organizations in the Milwaukee area fell 10 percent in 2004 to $205 million, the lowest point in five years. The key factor in the drop was the level of contributions by businesses, which fell 32 percent to $34.3 million in 2004 from $50 million a year earlier, according to Douglas Jansson, president of the Greater Milwaukee Foundatio"
