"Armendariz, 58, of Huntington Beach is well-known in Orange County for his volunteer work driving 'Jesus ministry trucks' to motels, where he dispenses food, clothing and Christian ministry.

He won a 2003 National Philanthropy Day award with congressional recognition for volunteer work, to which he has dedicated himself full time.

During this time, Armendariz, a U.S. permanent resident, was also fighting deportation to his native Mexico. He thought he had escaped removal until he received a letter this month asking him to appear at the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Los Angeles office for deportation Wednesday."
