Local Philanthropists to be Honored: "Tallahassee….Chuck and Patty Mitchell will be honored as the 2010 Philanthropists of the Year by the Big Bend Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) for their generous and personal philanthropic gifts to local charities and organizations.
Mr. Mitchell, co-founder of Miccosukee Land Cooperative, Mad Dog Construction, and GTO, Inc., has served on dozens of state and community boards and civic projects, including Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and United Way of the Big Bend. His other passion is animals and he serves as a board member, team handler and nationally certified evaluator for the Delta Society and its local affiliate, Companions for Therapy. ComForT is a volunteer organization using therapy animals in schools, retirement homes, hospitals, rehabilitation facilities and the courts to help people in a variety of ways. Chuck serves on its board and is in charge of program development."
