Carson Middle School students won the Outstanding Youth award in Philanthropy for their efforts to raise money to fight cancer in honor of a classmate who contracted leukemia.

The students raised nearly $4,000 while rallying around Elora Geier, 14, of McCandless, who died last year from the disease."
