Portland Center Stage » National Philanthropy Day
Portland Center Stage » National Philanthropy Day: "Did you know that philanthropy means “love of humankind”? Help us recognize the people that give to our community. November 15th is National Philanthropy Day. This day is set aside for all of us to recognize the great contributions philanthropy and those involved with giving have made on our communities and lives. I want to take a moment and say thanks to all of the people, businesses and foundations who have made philanthropic gifts to theater. Theater has an important impact on our community and in creating dialogue within it. Philanthropy creates programs that benefit all of us. It connects people to causes and to eachother."
Creative, effective and ethical fundraising promotes philanthropy - Rockford, IL - Rockford Register Star
Creative, effective and ethical fundraising promotes philanthropy - Rockford, IL - Rockford Register Star: "On Nov. 6, Chuck Sweeny wrote in his column, “Nonprofits need to get creative in quest for funds.” As president of the Rockford Area Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, I would like to add a few comments to the conversation that in my opinion was begun with a sarcastic and cynical tone. I would have preferred a more positive, encouraging and affirming perspective that helps all of us — donors, nondonors and professionals — to grow in the virtue of philanthropy. Our society depends on the selfless giving of individuals and businesses for the common good."

Hattiesburg American - www.hattiesburgamerican.com - Hattiesburg, Miss.: "n the United States alone, there are more than 1 million charitable organizations with Americans giving close to $295 billion annually. In Canada, with nearly $6 billion given, there are more than 88,000 charities that provide services. Latin America and Asia are also seeing a tremendous growth in their charitable sectors as their governments are no longer able to provide enough funding for social services. Therefore, if not for charitable organizations, the quality of life for all would be greatly diminished as charities generously contribute to education, health care, arts, environmental causes and other important programs."

Business West
Business West: "Those who raise funds for a living say the competition for people’s dollars and energies is more intense than ever — but they’re not seeing an increase in the total number of donors. Officials with the local chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals say that’s reason enough to honor those who do give. National Philanthropy Day provides just such an opportunity — as well as the potential to inspire others to get involved. When fundraisers from across the Pioneer Valley come together for National Philanthropy Day this month, they will be doing much more than honoring devoted volunteers. They’ll also be cultivating new ones."
