Enshrinement of NPD one way to integrate charities with communities
Recognition by the federal government of National Philanthropy Day “would do much to increase awareness of charities and the important role they play in Canadian society,” says Senator Terry M. Mercer.
Speaking at the NPD celebratory conference sponsored by the South Eastern Ontario Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Mercer says greater public understanding of philanthropy’s role in society would be followed by concomitant greater public involvement in the sector’s work, thus strengthening its ability to serve its communities.
