A Social Scene story on Page G-6 of Sunday's edition contained incorrect information. The 17th annual Volunteer Awards Luncheon, which honored 35 people from 31 organizations, was hosted by the North County Philanthropy Council. Also in the same story several affiliations were incorrect: Christy Wilson is executive director of the Rancho Santa Fe Foundation, Laurie Brindle is president of the North County Philanthropy Council and Holly Malan, whose name was spelled incorrectly, is a member of the North County Philanthropy Council and represented the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego. A corrected version of the story will run in this Sunday's Social Scene.
The Association of Fundraising Professionals is a separate organization, which hosted an event Nov. 9 in San Diego that included a tribute to Joan Kroc and Helen K. Copley.

Philanthropy Day!By Cam Tait
In the past six years I have attended Philanthropy Day luncheons with a briefcase, a notepad, and a looming deadline. I've reported on the event, and while I tried to capture the atmosphere and the ambience, I was always looking for interviews and trying to find an angle that was even five degrees different from last year. And for those of you who have read my efforts in past years, you'll know that I have wondered why we have a Philanthropy Day. I have questioned - perhaps harshly at times - why we need to celebrate the grassroots of giving, which I always perceived as simply the right thing to do.

The Association of Fundraising Professionals will honor outstanding community philanthropists at a luncheon scheduled for National Philanthropy Day, Nov. 18.
The association will honor Permian Basin residents and organizations in seven categories.
Those selected were “exemplary,” Susan Webb, Philanthropy Day chairman, said.
“It is very difficult to select just a handful of people in the Permian Basin to honor with an outstanding philanthropic award,” she said. “But of the nominations we received, these honorees were chosen because of their tremendous contribution throughout the Permian Basin.”
The luncheon will also feature keynote speaker Shar McBee, author of “To Lead is to Serve,” and two other books about leadership, Webb said

AUBURN — Nov. 15 is National Philanthropy Day, a day designated to celebrate giving.
First observed in 1986, National Philanthropy Day celebrates the daily contributions individuals and organizations across the world make to countless causes and missions.
When many people think of philanthropy, Andrew Carnegie and Bill Gates, even Eli Lilly and Peyton Manning come to mind. People tend to think only millionaires are able to give significantly to worthwhile causes. But, thanks to Indiana’s unique network of giving, that notion is becoming a thing of the past.
Indiana now has more than 92 community foundations. Every county has its own foundation already established as a service to Hoosiers who want to give. The DeKalb County Community Foundation began in 1996 to serve DeKalb County.
